Sufferers of ulcerative colitis have very little to laugh about, so I thought I'd write a short humorous post about my son's latest find.
Since his UC diagnosis he's had to avoid milk from animals as part of the endless list of food items he has to leave out of his diet.
For a long time his go-to product was coconut milk, as he can't eat anything with almonds in it. (Did I already mention that his list of no-no foods and drinks is extremely long?)
He regularly scours the gluten-free supermarket sections and carefully checks the labels on any new products. As he says, if the list of ingredients is more than four or five he doesn't even bother to read it. For sure it'll include preservatives and other things he can't ingest.
So he was very excited to discover an alternative to coconut milk. Which, although perfectly fine for him, does have a distinctive taste which it lends to everything it's poured over.
But now Ripple Foods have made a delicious protein rich non-dairy milk out of - wait for it - PEAS!
It comes in 48 ounce containers and four flavors: Original, Unsweetened, Vanilla and Chocolate.
There are also 8 ounce cartons for kids, in Original, Vanilla and Chocolate.
Check them out and see if they might work for you.

As for the humor - well, I think you can see where I'm heading with this. My son loves to tell his friends that he's brought his 'pee milk' with him and watch their faces!
